Second Leon Clarke bid rejected.

Ahead of tomorrow evening’s trip to high-flying Leyton Orient, Coventry City manager Steven Pressley has confirmed the club have rejected a second bid for Leon Clarke.

The want-away striker, who tops the League’s goalscoring charts with 18 goals already this season, handed in a transfer request following the 2-2 draw with Crawley earlier this month – a game he missed through injury.

The following day it was widely reported that Wolves had made a bid for his services, which was rejected.

Pressley has today confirmed that Wolves have made a second approach, which has again been rejected as it did not meet the club’s valuation for the journeyman.

“We know Leon wants to go and when he handed in the transfer request, he made that very clear to everyone at the club.

“When a player wants to go and he is not being let go, he is going to be frustrated. We will only do a deal if it is right for the football club and we have to ensure that happens.

“He will only move on, on our terms. He is contracted to the club for another 18 months and he has to respect that.

“The current situation is that we’ve had a second offer in from him but it didn’t meet our valuation so it could go right to the wire with Leon.”

Pressley also confirmed that Clarke is a “major doubt” for tomorrow’s game despite featuring in the away game at Preston in the league and in the 4-0 loss in The FA Cup Fourth Round to Arsenal last Friday.

“Leon is a doubt for the game tomorrow. He injured the heel in his foot during the Arsenal game.

“It is genuine injury and I would expect that to be the case. I have asked him to be professional and I’m sure that’s the case.

“He is a major doubt for tomorrow’s game so we have had to look around the squad for options. George Thomas is a player who we are considering to feature.

“Everyone else in the side is fine as everyone came through the Arsenal game unscathed.”

Clarke has scored 28 goals in 45 appearances in a Coventry City shirt; including an incredible 24% of the Sky Blues’ total goals in 2013.
