Coventry City Football Club have confirmed they current have “no plans” to sell any season tickets in The North Stand now the club are back at The Ricoh Arena.
Less than a week after the club announced they were returning to the ground they first moved to in 2005, The Sky Blues have confirmed on their official website, ccfc.co.uk, they do “not plan to sell Season Tickets between blocks 26 and 31 for the 2014/15 season.”
The first game back at The Ricoh after a year at Northampton Town’s Sixfields will be next Friday, September 5th at 19:45 however the club have written to season ticket holders at the ground in 2012/2013 to offer an alternative.
“The reason behind the move is to try to keep supporters closer together in the stadium to generate the best possible atmosphere for Steven Pressley and the team. Fans will remember the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy matches from two seasons ago and the atmosphere they generated when supporters sat closer together rather than being dispersed around the ground.
“The club, of course, would like to fill every area of the ground every week but the plan is to close the North Stand when the demand is not there.
“We wanted to let those previous Season Ticket holders know first because they are most affected and to offer them another option.
“One option will be in the South Stand, which will now open for those supporters who wish to sit behind the goal.”
However, whilst some fans have agreed with the move on social media, others believe a better option would have been to offer season tickets in all four stands, but with a number of the higher rows cordoned off instead.
Private Seat Licence holders have also been contacted by the club in regards to relocating their seats, should they currently be housed in the North Stand.
“Coventry City Football Club has today contacted Private Seat License (PSL) holders at the Ricoh Arena.
“The PSLs, which were purchased as the club moved to the Ricoh Arena in 2005, gave supporters a padded seat and a name plate on their chosen seat at the stadium.
“PSL owners will be given the opportunity to renew their Season Ticket in their chosen seat, which will be held until the end of September.
“However, following the announcement that Season Tickets will not be sold in the North Stand, some PSL holders have been informed that they will be able to move to a new seat in the ground and take their padded seat and name plate with them.
“The club will work hard to accommodate them wherever they can in the stadium.”
