Coventry City were this afternoon relegated to the fourth tier of English football for the first time in 58 years.
Following a season of misery both on and off the pitch, The Sky Blues went into this afternoon’s game against Charlton Athletic at The Ricoh Arena knowing nothing other than a victory would keep their slim hopes of survival alive.
A positive start for The Sky Blues – after a seven minute delay with flying pigs – saw George Thomas give City the lead in the first half, before Patrick Bauer equalised in the second.
After 34 straight years in the top division of English football ended in 2001, Coventry endured eleven seasons in The Championship before five in League One. Next season, Mark Robins will be looking to make the Club’s first Top 6 finish in any league in 46 years, and secure promotion straight back to League One.
