Coventry City crowned League One Champions

Coventry City have been crowned Champions of SkyBet League One, following a majority vote between the 23 clubs to curtail the season this afternoon.

The decision means Coventry City have returned to the second tier of English football, eight years after being relegated to League One.

Now, under Mark Robins, The Sky Blues have secured two promotions in three years, after he rejoined the Club for a second spell in the hot-seat when they were at their lowest and looking certain for relegation to League Two in March 2018, after a disastrous spell under former Leyton Orient manager Russell Slade.

Coventry are joined in The Championship by Rotherham United, who are also promoted automatically in second place. Oxford United, Portsmouth, Fleetwood Town and Wycombe Wanderers will contest the Play-Offs for the final promotion place.

It is the fourth time Coventry have been crowned Champions of a division, and their sixth promotion in 100 years of league football. (Stats courtesy of Jim Brown.)

Bolton Wanderers, Southend United and Tranmere Rovers have all been relegated to SkyBet League Two following the decision to end the season and finalise the league table under points-per-game.

Earlier in the afternoon, SkyBet League Two clubs also voted to curtail their season, with Swindon Town being crowned Champions with Plymouth Argyle and Crewe Alexandra promoted automatically to SkyBet League One and Cheltenham Town, Northampton Town, Exeter City and Colchester United to face off in the Play-Offs.
