Coventry City midfielder Franck Moussa is still in the race to win the Football League & Mitre 2014 ‘Goal of the Year’ after making the final five shortlist.
Moussa scored a magnificent chip over Leyton Orient goalkeeper Jamie Jones in the 67th minute in what was Orient’s first defeat in the league this season.
After receiving the ball from Leon Clarke, Moussa took on a defender, completed a step-over before lifting the ball over a helpless Jones in the Orient goal with this outside of his right foot. (Video below, courtesy of James Littlewood.)
After a Football League panel pulled together the top ten strikes of last year following submissions from each of the 72 Football League clubs, the ten contenders for the award were then shown on Soccer AM and viewers’ votes decided the final five, in which Moussa is included.
The overall winner will be announced following a live vote on the night of the Football League Awards on Sunday 16th March.
The final five:
Paddy McCourt – Barnsley (v. Middlesbrough)
Jay Emmanuel-Thomas – Bristol City (v. Bristol Rovers)
Franck Moussa – Coventry City (v. Leyton Orient)
James Poole – Hartlepool United (v. Notts County)
Troy Deeney – Watford (v. Leicester City)
