Behind the numbers: 2013 in review.

Behind the Numbers2013 has been a roller-coaster year for Coventry City fans, whilst off the field events have dominated, on the pitch events have been just as dramatic.

City scored 111 goals in the calendar year, of which 27 (24%) were scored by Leon Clarke in just 41 appearances which averages at a goal every 1.5 games.

In two appearances against Sheffield United, one home, one away, Clarke managed to score a brace in each, meaning a total of four goals against The Blades, whilst he also scored one goal in each of his three appearances against Preston North End.

Amazingly, Clarke also scored in every game where Graham Westley featured as the opposition manager (3 occasions; twice against Preston and once against Stevenage.)

Clarke notched six braces overall in 2013.

Clarke’s haul of 27 goals in a calendar year is one of the highest in the club’s history and highest since George Hudson in 1963. Clarrie Bourton has the club record with 43 however.

George Hudson (31 – 1963)

Behind Leon Clarke in the goal scoring charts comes strike partner Callum Wilson, who so far has had a storming 2013/2014 Season. Prior to the start of 2013/2014 Wilson had managed just one senior goal for The Sky Blues, but following the completion of games for 2013, Wilson has now bagged 16 in total, with all coming in this calendar year.
