Gillingham manager Martin Allen is reportedly ready to take striker Cody McDonald back to Preistfield for a third spell with The Gills.
McDonald has previously had two loan spells with the club, the first from Norwich where he scored 28 goals in League Two which lead to his arrival at The Ricoh Arena, and most recently a seven game spell at the end of last season, where he found the net a further four times.
McDonald is one of the players still under contract at the Sky Blues dubbed the ‘Bomb Squad,’ told by manager Steven Pressley they do not feature in his plans.
City are trying to negotiate the contracted players out of the club and Gills’ boss Martin Allen could provide a route out for McDonald who has had two successful loan spells at Priestfield Stadium, the most recent coming at the back end of last season when he scored four goals in seven games to help the Kent club’s promotion push to League One.
Allen is keen to reunite the little forward with target man Adebayo Akinfenwa who he has just signed from Northampton. The pair enjoyed a prolific partnership with Gillingham in the 2010/11 season.
In total, McDonald has made 47 appearances for Coventry City, scoring eight goals.
