Defender Aaron Martin has joined newly promoted League One side Oxford United after being released by Coventry City.

Speaking about the signing of Martin, Oxford boss Michael Appleton said: “He’s got good experience of this division judging by the amount of games he played for Coventry.

“You’ve only got to look at his physical attributes – he’s a big lad but he’s a good footballer, he’ll be a threat in both boxes and with the games he played last year in a side that was near the top of the division, surely he’ll be an asset for us.”

Sky Blues’ boss Tony Mowbray released the central defender despite making 32 appearances last season and speaking after his release Mowbray said: “It was a tough decision – probably the toughest decision of them all I’d have to say because he has done everything I have asked of him.”
