Coventry City defender Sam McCallum has today signed for Premier League side Norwich City, who have then immediately loaned the left back back to The Sky Blues until the end of the season.
The former Herne Bay defender, joined The Sky Blues after a successful stint in the Jamie Vardy V9 Academy and had forced his way into the first-team as one of the first names on the team sheet this season, making 27 appearances, scoring three goals after dislodging Brandon Mason.
“Sam is a player with great ability and potential in the game, and there has been much interest in him this season. To us, it was unfortunately a case of ‘when’ not ‘if’ Sam would leave, such was the level and nature of the interest.
“We rejected an offer earlier this week for him, but Norwich have now made a substantial bid that we have accepted.
“As part of the deal, Sam will return on loan to us for the rest of the season and we look forward to continuing to work with him and have no doubt he will be an important and positive influence in the rest of the campaign.” [Quotes from ccfc.co.uk]
After penning at contract with The Canaries until June 2024, McCallum has immediately rejoined The Sky Blues on loan until the end of the season as they push for promotion back to The Championship.
Norwich City fans will be hoping that this piece of January business from Coventry turns out like the last, when they completed a Deadline Day signing of James Maddison back in 2016.
