Waggott confirms ‘four firm enquiries’ for Callum Wilson.

WILSON, Callum 1Coventry City development director Steve Waggott has today confirmed that the club have received “four firm enquiries” for Callum Wilson from Championship clubs.

“At the moment our view is that Callum is not for sale.

“We have had approaches from four Championship clubs who are keen to secure the services of one of the best young strikers around.

“As it stands we have rebuffed and rejected all offers that have come in.

“We’ve had what I would call four firm enquiries all together, comprising two written bids, one quite firm verbal offer and one indicative enquiry where they have said they are interested.

“They are all Championship clubs, which is to be expected to be honest.

“But we haven’t had a formal approach from Forest – certainly not through me anyway and I don’t think the manager (Steven Pressley) has because he would have updated me with anything.”

Rumours were abound yesterday that Forest were set to announce the signing of Wilson but now League One Champions Wolves, who took Leon Clarke off City’s hands in January, are back in the race to sign the 22-year-old who hit 22 goals last season and made the PFA League One Team of the Year.

Steven Pressley, Wilson and Waggott have all publicly stated that they expect Wilson to still be wearing the Sky Blue shirt come the start of the 2014/2015 League One season and the club are looking to bring in a ‘Leon Clarke type’ striker to form a new partnership with Wilson, although Pressley has ruled out a return to the club for Clarke himself.

“We think if we can get the right players around him to gel with his pace off the shoulder with Callum’s movement and everything else he will give us, there’s a great chance of us pushing for promotion via the play-offs.”

It was reported that City rejected a seven-figure sum for Wilson’s services from Bournemouth last week, but it is still unclear who the final club who have made an enquiry for Wilson is.
